Everyone should experience the fun and creativity of Stop Motion Animation, and here is your chance. Participants will be introduced to Stop Motion Animation with puppets using clay, wire, and colored paper as a form of personal expression. This form of film and media art will be familiar to fans of King Kong, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Gumby and Pokey, and of course, Wallis and Gromit. Today’s new technology takes this once painstaking art form and makes it a delight for enthusiasts young and old. This workshop introduces basic concepts of animation and character building using a variety of traditional media, breaking down inhibitions for student to continue with tablet apps on their own. Starting by building expressive puppets with two and three dimensional materials such as card stock, wire, cloth and clay, students will be introduced short story formats, scenarios and found poetry, then develop a visual language for these ideas. Students will create a story and animation using the Art Center's Apple iPads.
Please bring $5 materials fee for instructor.
