Whether you know us as "extension," "continuing education," "community education," or "lifelong learning," we represent a 3rd type of educational offerings community colleges in California can do besides classes "for-credit" (for degrees and certificates and with financial aid possible), or free, "noncredit" courses for basic skills development and career training.
In a nutshell, Community Services offers classes, events and other offerings for just about anyone in the community - old or young, resident or not, training for a career or just looking to have a good time. Our offerings are not-for-credit (no transcripts, degrees or CA Community College Certificate programs), and are 100% supported by fees or donations/contributions. We're kind of like public TV or radio, but the education version!
We help folks learn a skill, try out new things and connect with LACC and our neighbors in an educational setting.
Community Services Mission
To provide a wide array of student and community-supported classes, workshops, seminars, excursions, recreational and other offerings to all members of the community. We aim to contribute to the physical, mental, moral, economic and civic development of our surrounding community and in doing so, foster a sense of community and neighborhood.
Community Services strives to achieve the following program outcomes:

A must course for anyone interested in face painting. You get the basics and love the pace. Got what I expected from the class.

Following the extensive list of 'materials to bring' I was looking forward to being introduced to using all of them - for example I was expecting that one week I would be taught to use charcoal, and then the following week pastels etc. Instead the course was simply a time where we could copy the same photograph and the teacher would slowly come around and offer advice. The teacher rarely came to me and I spent much of the first couple of classes unsure of what I was doing, or what I was supposed to be doing. This method of hands off teaching would have been ok if that was introduced at the beginning of the first class but sadly there was no introduction at all. I arrived 5 minutes early to the first class and there was no formal introduction, I had no idea what the teachers name was, or how each week would be structured. I am very disappointed with how it went and I would not recommend this.

This improv class was great and a lot of fun! Mike the instructor was very experienced, explained things well, and made class comfortable for beginners like myself. Class was relaxed and friendly. No experience or acting interest necessary. Would definitely recommend it.

Rosie Reed is THE BEST! I was apprehensive about learning something new at 53 but Rosie was very clear concise and patient. I am eager to start my Notary business. With the things she shared I feel very confident

Melissa Walker is such a fantastic teacher. She is incredibly knowledgeable about all things sewing, she's funny, and she made the classes a joy to come to each week.

The teacher was very knowledgeable and explained the concepts very clearly. She was patient, funny and told many interesting stories. I think if I bought my own sewing machine I would know how to start using it right away.

This class was everything I needed! Rosie is a marvelous teacher. Finally, I believe I can move forward notarizing loan documents with confidence. Also, she made me aware of a couple income sources as a notary that I knew nothing about before. Kudos to Rosie. And kudos to you for offering this class.
