Class Description

Description

Millennium Park is a fantastic combination of art, culture, nature, and urban life. With some of the most unique architecture and most interesting artwork in the city, not to mention the free tours, concerts, exhibitions, and family events, Millennium Park is understandably one of the greatest attractions in Chicago. Join your Digital Photo Academy instructor to explore this lively venue through your camera lens.

If you’re interested in shooting architecture, Millennium Park is the perfect place for you. If you’re interested in street photography, you’ve found your destination. If you’re interested in photographing people, transportation, and urban details, this is still a great venue for you. Basically, Millennium Park has something for every budding photographer! There’s also a fantastic dome to photograph. Capture the reflection of the cityscape and the clouds as they circle and morph around the silver globe, and show how this little world pops out of a field of trees and greenery.

Photographing with a professional photographer in the field gives you the unique opportunity to ask applicable questions, learn new techniques, and gain experience shooting in manual mode. Learn about exposure, contrast, rule of thirds, lighting, and other compositional strategies that help create a strong photograph.

Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates). There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.

You will have fun in the three-hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.

The instructor was great and I appreciated the handouts with examples. That helped my understanding of the concepts.
  • Digital Photography Live In-the-Field @ Millennium Park

I have to say I’m very disappointed in this class. I received this lesson as a gift since my friends have a running joke that I take the worst pictures. I thought this is my chance to learn some new skills and actually be able to start taking decent pictures. What I received cannot be called a photography lesson. We sat thru a half hour session of going thru a sheet that was not helpful at all then told to just walk around on our own and take pictures for an hour then meet back at 1. I thought once we met back we would go thru pictures and get some sort of tips on how to take better pics. This was not the case. Basically this was a waste of my time and money. I left very disappointed and would never recommend this class to anyone.
