Question from Alexis M.
Hi! can anyone give me more information on what they thought about the class?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Alexis! The internal reviews for the instructor this class are all excellent. She also teaches the Intro to Painting class which has two reviews on this site from last year (both 5 star).

The class was okay, I wish there was more specific direction. While I think the teacher had lots of knowledge and told us a few tips and strategies I don't feel like we were really set up with good learning exercises to practice those skills, it was more of her telling us about them and then being left alone to draw large pictures. Also the teacher was teaching two classes at the same time (drawing in one room and painting in another) which seemed inappropriate and I wish that was clarified int eh description. I shared this feedback and ended up on a phone call with Bob who I think runs the place in which he aggressively talked at me for 20 minutes about how nobody in five years has had a problem with this set up until me. I certainly wasn't the only one in the class who thought the whole thing was questionable. Won't be signing up for anything at discovery again.

Overall the teacher was really nice and super helpful and encouraging throughout the entire class. I would take another class with her especially if I wanted to do more with painting. The class was good and I think the first two classes were the most helpful as it relates to drawing. However for the other classes we spent the majority of the time working with different types of paints. And while that was a fun part of the class I felt like there was still more for me to learn as it relates to just basic drawing since I was really starting from close to zero. And when I asked questions she was always responsive I just would have liked more time working with the different types of pencils, shading, graphite and just how to draw from different perspectives.

Sara is a fantastic teacher. She is helpful and encouraging, as well as able to see the student's blind spots. Will continue taking classes from her.

I enrolled in “Drawing for Beginners” because I wanted to learn a few tips that might help me learn to draw. Instead, we were just told to draw items. I could have saved the money and stayed home.
