In this four week intensive we’ll be studying queer poetry and poetics while working on our own poems. Queer here meaning both LGBTQIA , as well as unfixed (both meanings), as well as strange and poetics here meaning the study and theory of writing. To that end we’ll be looking at poems and essays from historical and contemporary queer writers such as Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, Eve Sedgwick, Cameron Awkward-Rich, Franny Choi, and many others.
Each week you’ll write a poem in response to prompts that emerge from our reading whose goal is to push your sense of what’s possible in your own work. Class time will be half discussion of our readings and half workshopping what you’ve written. This course is open to everyone from those new to this study and practice as well as long time practitioners in the field. Be prepared to be extremely generous with each other’s work every week. Can’t wait to learn alongside you.
All spaces are held in the class with a $100 deposit that goes toward tuition.
In the event that an instructor or the school needs to cancel at the last minute, students will receive a refund less a 5% non-refundable registration fee.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
