NYC Jewelry Lab by Carolina Iwanow offers jewelry classes and workshops that enable the students to explore and develop their inherent creativity as well as technical aspects of the craft. Metalsmithing is a very ancient craft that exist since the cave era, metal transformed human life. Beauty and body decoration are indeed a human obsession. Working with precious metals is one of the most versatile and amazing crafts you can ever experience. When you craft metal you deal with art, design, alchemy, mathematics, physics, nature, chemistry and patience. Crafting temples the spirit.
NYC Jewelry Lab is a green Jewelry studio. Carolina is very diligent about crafting jewelry in the safest way. She do not use hazardous chemicals.
At Carolina Iwanow’s classes, students will learn how to design, learn and earn ancient hand crafting skills and understanding modern tools and techniques. From introductory level courses to professional fine jewelry, contemporary jewelry & fashion jewelry, design & metal production. Carolina offers as well a big variety of skilled workshops. Her goal as an instructor is to teach the secrets and techniques of design & jewelry and how to make ideas come to life through one of the most amazing and versatile crafts in this earth: Metalsmithing.
Silabous of the class:
From the very first minute students will learn a design exercise and they will design their own first jewel from scratch ( it can be a pendant, earrings or a ring) students will learn the characteristics of precious metals and how they behave, they will also learn how to transfer it to metal, how to saw, file, sand, anneal, solder, clean, use the flex shaft and the polisher machine. In the second class student will learn how to carve a ring out of wax and then the student will have the amazing experience to outsource their very first wax carving at the wax casting supplier at the Diamond District. As the third exercise we will finish the casted ring so it is ready for taking iit back to the casting supplie for molding ( i wantthe student to have the first experience of casting a few more of that first wax carved piece ) in this third class the student will learn how to forge metal into a few cuffs or chocker or hoops, in the fourth class tthe student will learn how to do a fine silver bezel setting pendant or ring with a reticulated band in the fifth class the student will finish the bezel piece and depending on the student desire the student will learn gipsy or flushing setting on the first wax carved ring or we will work on any techniques the student would like to learn.
Carolina’s classes are very personalized and super hands on.
Carolina Iwanow was born in Argentina and she is a jeweler for 28 years and she teaches jewelry for 20 years. She studied fashion & textile design at the University of Buenos Aires and contemporary jewelry with jeweler Jorge Castanon, European and Argentinian folklore chasing & repusee silver Pottery with master jeweler Jorge Pablo Pallarols. Also she developed much of her knowledge of jewelry and the jewelry industry through first-hand experience designing, producing and manufacturing fine jewelry and high end fashion jewelry for the biggest brands and fashion brands in Argentina and worldwide (such as Bebe, Guess, Marciano, Disney, Eva Mendez, NYC & Co, Ona Saez, Vulk, Rusty, Invicta etc.) She had her first jewelry art gallery in Buenos Aires. In 1998 she started to teach jewelry & design at the University of Architecture of Buenos Aires and at her own studio forming a lot of jeweler. She has her pieces exhibited at galleries worldwide including Saatchi & Saatchi, London.
Materials: the materials are included for the first class and after this Carolina will send a full list of suppliers and also a very versatile list of materials that it can be customized based on each student budget.
Tools: Student don’t need to buy any tools for Carolina’s class. NYC Jewelry Lab it’s a fully equipped jewelry studio. The studio has 8 jewelry stations and can accommodate up to 8 students.

Great, hands-on class. Carolina was very clear, patient and inspiring and gave individual guidance to each student since we were on different levels. My only suggestion is to include a guide or handout on steps so we'd know what's coming next so we can keep it in mind as we're doing each step.
