Question from Chaya F.
Why are the day classes 4 hours and evening classes 3 hours for the same price?
Answer from Carolina I. Verified Educator
Hi Chaya, it's Carolina Iwanow because my classes at night are a little more expensive because the time frame of the classes are for people that work all day until 6 pm and would like to learn jewelry so they have a class available at 7.30 pm and the class ends 10.30 pm.

Question from Danielle H.
Is there an approximate range of what the materials will cost to purchase?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Danielle! The list will fluctuate between $60-$70 depending on the materials the students choose. The school normally sends the list with materials and supplies after the first class, but to give an idea, Students will require a basic list of materials to create their pieces: Metal sheet, metal wire, Silver soldering, 4 dozen of blades, wax. If students want to learn stone setting then we add stones and fine silver to the list. Hope this helps!

Question from Kimberly B.
how is the class structured as a course if classes start each week for new comers? If I start this week your new session may have started last week which means the lessons would be all over the place. how is this organized to maximize each students ability to grasp all phases of this course?
Answer from Carolina I.
My classes are personalized u will share it with people that are more advanced. I work with each person on different projects. Class syllabus, your first project is a design exercise that leads you to your 1st piece, second piece a wax carved ring third and four pieces 2 or 3 cuffs or a bezel setting depends on what the student would like to learn. We will be designing together based on your learning techniques your skills and your desires.

Question from Jena T.
I have a fair amount of broken gold and silver jewelry (solid, not plate) that I keep around for sentimental reasons but don't like enough to repair. I have always wanted to make something new out of these pieces. Is this class the right place for that?
Answer from Kristle C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
First, the teacher needs to see what you have, at least some pictures. The teacher also advised taking at least 5 classes if you do not have the experience yet with melting and recycling all the jewelry. Hope that helps!

Question from Marsha W.
I'm interested in making jewelry using spoons and forks, bending, cutting, soldering, etc. I've purchased products online that promised to achieve this outcome but it didn't work out. Would taking one of your classes help me to reach my goal?
Answer from Angelica B. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
You can definitely work with them as long as your utensils are made of solid metal; sterling silver, copper brass or nickel silver. Unfortunately, plated materials won't work in this class.

Question from Amy H.
What exact types of items do you learn to make in this class ?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
In the first class, you will learn a design tool to design your first piece from scratch and that day you will learn how to cut file and sand it. Second class, you will learn how to solder that first piece and you will learn how to finish a piece and you will learn how to do a ring by carving wax. Third class, you will start a bezel setting pendant/ ring or an anticlastic cuff.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Fourth, you will finish or keep working on this pieces and then we might do reticulation granulation or twisted wire or a simple chained bracelet or earrings. The classes are very personalized and you will learn how to craft metal meanwhile you learn different techniques and you learn how to design. But for me is not about the number of pieces is about you learning this craft properly.

The Art of Metalsmithing Jewelry Design - All Levels

I am really enjoying the Metalsmithing class. Carolina is not only a very talented jeweler and metalsmither; she is a wonderful teacher and person.! We have many hours to learn and she finds time for each of us. There are usually only 3 other people in the studio at the same time. I am learning the basics of metalsmithing and Carolina is immensely supportive and I made a ring already after only 3 classes. I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn metalsmithing, be creative and have some relaxing craft time with a wonderful educator.

The Art of Metalsmithing Jewelry Design with Carolina was an amazing experience! It was the perfect introductory class for someone who has never worked in metalsmithing before, and I felt comfortable learning and growing throughout the 5 week curriculum. Carolina offers a wide variety of expertise and also makes class fun! She gives total creative freedom to her students and ensures that their pieces turn out the way they envisioned. I would absolutely recommend this class for anyone looking to explore a new art medium or solidify skills they already possess in the art of jewelry making. This class is great for people of all levels! I walked away with three beautiful new pieces that I can't wait to show off!
