Class Description

Description

This online course is designed for those who wish to integrate creative writing with visual art practices. In this class, you will explore the important role that creative writing plays in contemporary photo-based art, artist book creation, and exhibition development. The course analyzes the work of professional artists who use creative writing as a central and meaningful component of their artistic process, including their exhibition strategies and presentation approaches.

Through carefully designed in-class writing exercises and guided practice, you will use writing as a tool to deepen your understanding of the work you are currently making, or work you aspire to develop in the future. For assignments between classes, you will apply writing prompts and exercises to produce, sequence, and present richer and more conceptually developed work, which will be reviewed and discussed in class. You will also receive constructive feedback on your developing artistic practice.

Upon completing this course, you will have acquired the practical tools and conceptual frameworks needed to successfully combine creative writing with visual art. This integration will allow you to create more layered and complex experiences for your audience while deepening your own artistic voice and practice.
