Question from Anonymous
I'm into general construction such as carpentry, electrical, etc. Is this for general construction?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! Yes, this introduction to blueprint reading class is focused on general construction blueprints and the textbook that accompanies this class is a construction textbook. However, this is an introductory level course and assumes that the student is coming in with very limited knowledge of blueprint reading. As a result, this course may not go as deep into the specific details of certain elements because the course goals are much broader in scope.

Question from Asif I.
What materials and/or books do I need to bring to class?
Answer from Kyna N. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
There is a textbook for the course but it is provided in class and the cost of the book is included in the course fee. While not required, if you have a scale ruler, it might help you in class to bring one along. You should also bring along your preferred note-taking method like a tablet, laptop, or notepad and pen.

Question from Anonymous
It is listed as 3 separate sessions. Do I need to take all 3 sessions to get credit or is it 3 separate dates the classes are offered. I am very interested in this class and would further my career with the Department of Energy. If it is only 1 session for the cert I will have multiple people interested. We work for Fluor Marine Propulsion Corporation in upstate NY.
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! It's 3 different dates that the class is offered. You can choose one of those dates and you'll receive a certificate of completion.

Question from Jordan
I have absolutely no knowledge of construction or blueprints, but am considering a career change in this area and being able to read building plans is a pre-requisite for most entry-level jobs. Is this course suitable for me, or will it go over my head? Thank you
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hello, Jordan! The Introduction to Blueprint Reading class is meant for beginners and assumes that the student has limited or no experience with blueprints. While many of our students do come from the construction field and will have more experience than a beginning student, the class is geared for students at all levels. Hope this helps!

Question from anonymous
Will this class allow me to work independently with shop drawings from this course or would I need more classes?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! Pace University said, "It’s difficult to gauge what “work independently” means. But I can say that the Introduction to Blueprint Reading course is, as the name suggests, an introductory course that does not necessarily confer mastery or expert status upon completion. To that end, we offer intermediate and advanced courses for students seeking to deepen their knowledge of blueprint reading. For somebody seeking to bring their knowledge from Pace’s Introduction to Blueprint Reading course into the independent application- either as a contractor or for a personal project- further study, either at Pace or elsewhere, would be recommended."
