What you'll learn in this cinematography class:
Learning digital video production is vital for independent filmmakers and for anyone interested in harnessing the power of media. Camera Fundamentals is accessible and easy-to-learn, teaching you basic concepts and technical skills applicable to any camera. In this online version of a classic DCTV Workshop, learn about focus, exposure, white balance, and composition. A perfect introduction!
This is an online Production workshop at the Fundamentals level.
Topics include:
- Film vs. Digital Video
- Codecs
- Focus
- Exposure
- Color Temperature and White Balance
- Composition
- Movement
Capacity: 10 students | Duration: 4 hrs
Materials: You will need a computer or other device that can connect to the internet and support Zoom video conferencing. If you have a video camera at home, you are welcome to have it handy for this workshop.
Remote Learning
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
Refund Policy
If you register for a workshop and are unable to attend, we can offer the following compensation:
- Full refund (less 5% cancellation fee):
- If your cancellation is confirmed at least 6 full business days prior to workshop's start date.
- Full credit (valid for 3 months) or a 50% refund:
- If your cancellation is confirmed at least 3 full business days prior to workshop's start date.
- You receive no compensation (neither refund nor credit):
- If your cancellation is confirmed less than 3 full business days prior to workshop's start date.
- No compensation (Neither Refund nor Credit) is available for cancellations less than 3 full business days prior to a workshop's start time or for non-attendance. For example, if you cancel your registration for a workshop that starts at 6:30pm on Monday, we must confirm your cancellation no later than 6:30pm the Thursday before for you to receive Credit.
There are absolutely no make-ups allowed for any missed session(s) of a workshop. It is not possible for students to make up a missed session of their Workshop by attending an equivalent session on another day. There are no refunds for missed sessions.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

A solid overview with pertinent materials and practical hands on use of cameras and equipment. Josh, the Instructor, was knowledgeable and certainly qualified, having made several documentary films himself. My only critique is I would have liked a little more help trying to download our practice shoot onto my computer (not in troubleshooting my computer but in the basics of how to use the hard drive as I have never used one before). Overall, a great introductory course in camera fundamentals.
