This introductory course provides a comprehensive overview of voice-over performance fundamentals. You will learn what attributes define an excellent voice-over performance through real-world professional examples, and you will explore the current stylistic trends shaping voice-over performance across numerous genres. The course clarifies the distinctions between on-camera acting, stage acting, and voice-over acting, highlighting the unique demands of each medium.
The four essential components of the speaking voice, tone, volume, inflection, pitch, and tempo, form the core of your learning. Through targeted exercises and specific examples, you will discover how to leverage each component to create compelling voice-over performances.
Upon completing this class, you will:
- Understand the characteristics of professional voice-over work and how to integrate these qualities into your own reads
- Develop knowledge of contemporary trends in voice-over performance across multiple genres: commercial, corporate, and video narration, documentary narration, animation and video games, and audiobook production
- Learn to distinguish between conversational, natural-sounding reads and overly formal announcer-style delivery

This class is entirely performance-based, so come prepared and ready to read aloud. Your instructor will provide all scripts, eliminating the need to gather materials beforehand.
