What you'll learn in this origami class:

One of three styles of origami, kusudama was inspired by the patterns made from herbs and flowers in Japanese medicine balls. Experience the meditative quality of this simple yet intricate art as you connect multiple versions of the same shape of folded paper into a recognizable pattern. Create a kusudama model then experiment with designing other abstract forms.

Before class, you will need to purchase one pack of 6" x 6" standard origami paper, which can be easily sourced online. Consider purchasing from Taro's Origami, the Brooklyn-based organization we are working with to bring you this class.

This class will take place online. Registered students will receive login instructions.

Kusudama Origami - Online
Reviewed by Helene C. on 6/25/2021
I’m sorry to say that I was very disappointed with this class. I was expecting to enjoy it. The instructor went through the folding process so quickly and I simply could not keep up with the complexities. After doing the first piece quickly, I thought I would breeze through the rest, but he went too quickly and I could not. After 40 minutes, I left the group. Very disappointing. Helene Crohn

Wish handouts came with this class or follow-up videos. Towards the end it went rather quickly so I was unable to complete the 8 sided structure. Otherwise enjoyed very much. Also, the discrepancy between the advertised start time and actually start time was unfortunate.

The teacher was obviously good and knew his stuff, and the fact that he had help to monitor the class was great. I made what I expected to make. But there was a clerical error so the class started an hour late, which was just annoying, especially since the sponsor was not transparent about why there was an error. Also no handouts were provided, so you'd better hope to remember everything you learned, since you don't have anything written to help you remember.
