What you'll learn in this mixed media class:

It takes an incredible amount of talent and hard work to become the greatest at anything. There’s a name for believing in our ability to grow and change and that name is growth mindset. We get where we are through a combination of innate ability, hard work and effort. We have infinite influence over our skills and abilities, far more influence than we think. A growth mindset is the mindset that our abilities are something that can be grown or developed with focus and work. Those with a growth mindset believe that they can increase their intelligence and talent through increasing time and effort put toward learning new skills and practicing old ones. The most exceptional people would most likely not be at the top without some innate abilities but something that many people don’t see is that innate talent alone will not get you to the top.

Students will learn what growth mindset is, ways to foster it, growth mindset vs. fixed mindset thinking, how to foster growth mindset thinking in others and using growth mindset thinking to overcome difficult situations. Students will also learn how to create a growth mindset vision board to cement their learning in order to make it a habit for personal growth.

Vision Board

A vision board is a visual representation of a particular concept using images, illustrations and/or words. The goal of a vision board is to increase awareness of the particular concept or theme assigned to the board in a creatively stimulating way. Some possible concepts are growth mindset, building successful relationships, self-care/self-compassion, and goals in areas such as love, money, career etc. Building a vision board is a playful and intuitive search for visuals and or text, that when completed, serve as a source of inspiration, visual reminder and motivator. Therefore, it will serve you to make a habit out of viewing your board often.

When creating your vision board, it is important to enjoy the process and work intuitively. Go with the flow, more feeling less thinking and debating. Select images or text that feel good and resonate with you without overthinking it. Prioritizing can come after its creation.

Materials Needed to Fully Participate:

  • Scissors
  • Glue (I prefer Elmer’s clear glue sticks)
  • Magazines, books, cards, drawings, text (drawn or found)
  • Something to put the images etc. on, examples are cardboard, cardstock, wood panel, canvas can be difficult to get the paper to stick to unless you use mod podge or a layer of paint first.
  • You can add anything that you enjoy and feel inspired by! Ribbon, concert tickets, photos etc.

About the Instructor:

I have been teaching art as well as crafts at a private art school for 6+ years and have been a professional artist since 2001. I have also earned my master teaching credentials from the state of CA. My style is intuitive and free flowing which leaves room for individual student creativity and flexibility. My classes are a fun way to learn new skills and develop the independent intuition needed to keep the creative process alive for years to come.

Virtual Class FAQ

What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

How many people is my purchase good for?

Each ticket is good for one "device" (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?

You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?

Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.

Do I have to show my video or speak during class?

While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
