Students design and create a fine art mosaic piece using a variety of materials such as glass, ceramic, stone, shell, metal, and polymer. Planning and design, including selection of materials, methods and tools will be covered. Several projects will be offered, or students may bring in a project of their choice with instructor guidance. A materials fee of $90 is due to instructor on the first day of classes.

Students create a small classic mosaic in a mortar setting. Working with authentic smalti glass from Italy, Mexico and China, participants learn to cut smalti properly and try their hands at the hammer and hardie, the traditional method of cutting mosaic tesserae. Instruction covers how the glass is made and used. A $75 materials fee is payable to the instructor.

Mosaic ?Mixed-Media? Nocturnes Nighttime landscapes can be the most visually dramatic part of the day ? create your own fantastic nighttime cityscapes! Using black paper and white pencils, we will invent and then draw geometric architectural buildings. Brightly colored paper mosaic squares will be used to decorate the architectural structures in your dramatic landscapes.
