This summer, high school students in NYC can get a head start on their financial future by learning Microsoft Excel, the fundamentals of finance and stock market investing, and the essentials of Python programming for data science.
This beginner-friendly program covers the most in-demand skills for today's competitive college and career environment. Students gain hands-on experience with tools and concepts that give them a real advantage in college coursework, internship applications, and entry-level professional roles across finance, business, real estate, entrepreneurship, and technology.
The first half of the program focuses on building Excel proficiency and financial literacy. The second half introduces Python programming and data science, equipping students with the analytical and technical skills that define today's data-driven economy.
Excel
Become a confident Microsoft Excel user over the course of three intensive days. Start with the essentials: data entry, charts, and must-know keyboard shortcuts in Excel Fundamentals. Progress into Intermediate Excel with Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP. Reach Advanced Excel by learning to automate repetitive tasks through macro recording. By the end, students have the Excel fluency that employers across every industry actively seek.
Finance and Investing
Understand what drives stock prices and how professional investors evaluate companies. This section covers the core principles of investment analysis, including P/E ratios, discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, and financial statement interpretation. Students will examine actual earnings releases and valuation metrics from companies like Google and Apple, learning to apply a framework used by real-world investment researchers.
Python for Data Science
The program concludes with an introduction to Python programming and its applications in data science and machine learning. Students get up and running quickly and learn to work with Pandas, Matplotlib, and Scikit-learn to import, clean, analyze, and visualize data sets.
