Class Description

Description

There's nothing quite like starting a Sunday morning with fresh, homemade Indian breakfast. This hands-on cooking class introduces you to a variety of traditional Indian breakfast dishes that are both satisfying and delicious, ensuring you'll stay full throughout the day.

Featured Dishes:

Aloo poha is a beloved Indian breakfast staple consisting of beaten rice mixed with cauliflower, onions, and potatoes. This dish is so widely enjoyed across India that it's available in local eateries and canteens, where it serves equally well as a morning meal or evening snack. Upma semolina offers another rice-based option, presenting a thick, slightly sweet porridge typically prepared with cashews, raisins, and onions. The addition of raisins brings delightful sweetness and texture to complement the savory base. Rice-based breakfast dishes are particularly common throughout Asia, valued for their nutritional density and ability to fuel your day. Poori, a crispy fried bread, pairs wonderfully with potato curry, which keeps the bread soft and tender. A flavorful chutney rounds out the meal, providing an extra burst of flavor to accompany each bite.

What You'll Learn:

  • Poori and sabzi
  • Aloo poha with rice, cauliflower, onion, carrots, and spices
  • Dosa with lentil and rice batter filled with potato stuffing
  • Sambar: a lentil soup featuring butternut squash, eggplant, okra, and aromatic spices
  • Coconut chutney made with ground coconut, ginger, and green chili

You will gain comprehensive knowledge about spices and masalas, which form the foundation of authentic Indian cooking. Spices are essential to bringing out the unique flavor profile in every dish; therefore, I encourage all my students to develop expertise in understanding and using spices effectively. Throughout the class, I will share the nuances and secrets of spice selection, guide you on where to source quality masalas, and teach you methods to preserve their aromatic qualities.

This class emphasizes hands-on learning with my continuous guidance and instruction throughout. We work from scratch using the finest, freshest, and healthiest ingredients available. Beyond cooking, you'll enjoy socializing with fellow students, sharing culinary experiences, and eating together at the conclusion of the class in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. After preparing all the dishes, we gather for a sit-down dinner where you'll experience the complete joy of friendship, fun, and exquisite food.

After class, I'll send you an electronic copy of all recipes via email for your permanent reference and future cooking at home.
