Class Description

Description

Expand your creative possibilities for artistic expression with Master Silk Painter Suzanne Punch. This full-day, hands-on workshop guides participants through the process of designing a custom scarf using premium French dyes and traditional resist techniques. The 34-inch square silk features hand-sewn edges and can serve as either a wearable scarf or a stretched wall hanging. All necessary materials are provided by the instructor.

The completed silk undergoes professional steam setting to ensure permanent color adhesion, a process requiring 3.5 hours. After steaming, your piece is washed and ready for pickup. Be prepared to wear clothing that may show dye marks, as this creative process can result in incidental staining. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch to enjoy during the workshop.

This clan was very fun, and I ended up with a beautiful scarf at the end! A things to keep in mind: first, you’re working with dyes, so wear old clothes! Second, these scarves need to be set with steam for a few hours, so you won’t be able to take yours home immediately. You’ll be able to either pay Suzanna a few dollars to have it mailed to you, or you can pick it up at her home.

This class was hands-on from beginning to end. Ms. Punch did a general overview of the medium we would be working with. She was always there to provide guidance when necessary. I was very satisfied with this class and will do it again in March.
