During this class session, you will serve as the model to be molded and transformed into a casting or sculpture. If you prefer not to provide your own model, one will be furnished for your use at no additional charge. Should your selected model exceed certain dimensional or technical complexity standards, an additional material surcharge may apply. This comprehensive two-day workshop covers the entire mold-making process, including all silicone rubber, plaster, resin, silicone, and wax casting materials needed; these supplies are incorporated into your total class fee.
The workshop covers multiple sophisticated mold-making techniques and procedures. Throughout the two days, you will develop competence with both single-piece and multi-piece mold construction methods. You will master three distinct casting application approaches, specifically brush-on techniques for detailed control, pour-on methods for solid replication, and blanket molding approaches for large or complex forms.
On day one, your instructor will introduce foundational mold-making concepts while conducting individual assessments of your specific project requirements based on your chosen model. Participants are actively encouraged to observe and assist with the diverse mold-making projects being developed by other class members, creating opportunities for shared learning across different modeling approaches and casting methodologies.
If the workshop timeline permits, the instructor will provide foundational instruction in life casting techniques, alongside demonstrating multiple practical casting approaches that you can employ once your mold has been successfully completed.
Important Details: Bring a sculpture or other three-dimensional model of your choice (keeping overall dimensions to approximately 12 inches maximum) or select from sculptural models available for class use.
