Join us for one of our most popular CraftJam Academy workshops, now updated into two sessions. Learn the basic techniques of hand lettering and experiment with creating your own unique style.

Hand lettering can be simply defined as “the art of drawing letters” - it is a specific combination of letterforms crafted for single use, often hand-drawn, with pens, graphite or brushes.

In 2 sessions our JamMaster will introduce you to the basic techniques of hand lettering and guide you in adding decoration and detail to your letters.

The curriculum:
Session 1: Introduction to Hand Lettering
  • Introduction to lettering styles
  • Defining the difference between typography, calligraphy, and lettering
  • Tips for successful pencil sketches
  • Draw script, sans serif, and serif
Session 2: Advanced Techniques + Defining Your Unique Lettering Style
  • Advanced techniques on designing and embellishing letters
  • Learn how to take inspiration from hand lettering examples
  • Tricks for adding drop shadows
  • Define & practice your own unique style of hand lettering
This class is beginner-friendly; no experience necessary! We will have all the supplies and materials ready for you. Also, we are BYOB friendly, so bring a drink of your choice.

After completing the class, use these hand lettering techniques for stationery, unique signage and even gifts for friends. With practice, you’ll be able to expand on your hand lettering skills for social media, blogs, small business signage and more!

School Notes:
We are BYOB friendly! Crafting is paired best with your favorite drink of choice! But, you must be 21 or over. Younger? Just have a mocktail. No one will notice ;)

    This was a great class! Jessie is awesome and really spent time with each person in there. Even if you’re a complete beginner or a professional letterer you’ll get something out of this class.I definitely recommend it! The part about making prints of your work however does happen rather quickly, and if you aren’t familiar with the programs you’re probably not going to get much out of it. If you are already familiar then she’ll definitely give you some cool ideas for making prints!

    The class was so fun! Jessie was a great teacher, very knowledgable, and used the time well. She was able to help everyone individually when we needed it and gave us great suggestions to improve our final projects. I learned a lot and can't wait to make more lettering projects!
