Class Description

Description

Georgetown offers far more than the well-known shopping, dining, and entertainment venues on M Street and lower Wisconsin Avenue. The C&O Canal originates in Georgetown, and just blocks north of M Street lie tree-lined streets awaiting exploration by photographers seeking fresh perspectives. Join your Digital Photo Academy instructor for a guided tour revealing the Georgetown that many visitors never discover.

From the Potomac River and Washington Harbor north through Georgetown's charming neighborhoods, you will find abundant photographic subjects. Finding those images others overlook represents one of photography's great rewards, and Georgetown contains many such opportunities. Bold colors, ornate architectural details, and compelling street scenes await photographers who take time to observe carefully.

Learn to use depth of field strategically to bring desired details into focus while allowing other elements to blend softly into backgrounds. Discover how lens selection controls what you capture in your frame and how this choice establishes a sense of place within your compositions. Join us for engaging photographic instruction as you walk through the distinctive character of this historic Washington neighborhood. You never know what compelling human moments you will witness in Georgetown's streets.

Each Composition in the Field class begins with an instructional session from one of our experienced photographers, followed by a walking tour through one of many photogenic locations across the 20-plus cities served by the Digital Photo Academy. Locations feature street photography opportunities, magnificent interiors, farmers' markets, zoos, landscapes, and additional diverse venues. Class photos represent a blend of student and instructor images from various locations throughout the United States and Canada.

During the three-hour session, you will engage with photography instruction, learn strategic shooting techniques, capture more compelling photographs, and develop skills to improve your photography, whether traveling, attending events, or photographing daily life.

What to bring: Your DSLR or another digital camera you use regularly, a fully charged battery, and a spare battery if available. Comfortable walking shoes will enhance your experience. Dress appropriately for current weather conditions.
