Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this composition class:

Once home to San Diego’s flourishing tuna fishing industry and generations of Italian families who made their living on the sea, Little Italy is now a lively neighborhood filled with patio cafés, packed restaurants, craft brew stops, urban wineries, art galleries, sophisticated shops, boutique hotels and the beautiful Amici Park. Catch colorful scenes of street photographers of the locals and visitors alike, enhanced to create a narrative of environmental portraits within the charming settings at every corner.

How to get there: Little Italy is nestled between the downtown core and San Diego’s glistening waterfront. If you’re arriving from the North, exit on Front Street, and immediately turn right on Cedar. Parking in the outlying neighborhoods is free or take the trolly from Old Town Transit it is just two stops from Little Italy. Meet in the front The Crack Shack on 2266 Kettner Blvd. San Diego, CA 92101

Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates).  There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.

You will have fun in the three hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.

Question from Mrs. M.
This class is for DSLR cameras, correct? As opposed to cell phone cameras.
Answer from Richard R. Verified Educator
Thank you for asking. Some people bring DSLR cameras but others bring Mirrorless Cameras like Sony a6000. There is a trend these days which pits Mirrorless Cameras versus DSLR cameras, with the debate that even though Mirrorless cameras are smaller they still offer options because their sensors are larger, which some people say might not be true. Hope this helps.
