Emily Beitiks & Alex Locust

Teaches at Foundation Center

Emily Beitiks received a Ph.D. in American Studies with a focus in Disability Studies at the University of Minnesota. She has social justice classes at the University of Minnesota, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Davis. Beitiks is a former senior program associate for the Center for Genetics and Society. In her current position as Associate Director of the Paul Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State University, she continues her work as a scholar and advocate of disability to showcase how disabled people bring unique value that can benefit us all. She was the project director for "Patient No More," a multimedia, interactive exhibit which modeled new standards for exhibit access, and she also serves as coordinator for Superfest International Disability Film Festival, which prides itself on being the most accessible film festival in the world. 

Alex Locust has a Bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Miami, Florida and an MA from the Clinical Rehabilte University. He has worked at the Department of Rehabilitation, the Paul Longmore Institute on Disability, and Stonewall. Recently, Alex has begun leading workshops for organizations and universities around the Bay Area on "Microaggressions," focusing on race, sexuality, and disability.
