What you'll learn in this kids art class:

For this three-week Artist Xchange Program, youth artists will join mixed media visual artist, Alex Martinez, in exploring what legends, characters, and icons that have informed their personal identity or cultural understanding and shape their visual language.

Students will explore this question self-publishing with zine-making, stencil-making, monoprinting, and relief printmaking. Students will be supported to develop their individual projects and have the opportunity to contribute to a class collaborative painting.

Students will be asked to respond to the following prompt at time of registration:

  • Think about the legends or stories you heard from family members growing up. Think about the music, artists, or historical figures that mean alot for your culture.
  • Think about the characters you watched in movies, cartoons or tv that represented your culture.
  • What legends, characters, and historical or pop culture icons mean alot for your personal identity?

Please be sure to bring a lunch or snacks to last the day.
