Edwin McGowan

Teaches at New York Botanical Garden

A lifelong naturalist, Ed McGowan received a B.A. in Biology from Bowdoin College and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Binghamton University. For the past 17 years, he has served as Director of Science for the Palisades Interstate Park Commission and Director of Trailside Museums and Zoo at Bear Mountain State Park in New York's Hudson River valley.

Ed considers himself fortunate to have spent many years doing field studies on diverse taxa including mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians. While snakes are a particular fascination and were the focus of his graduate work, his interests are more broad and are increasingly focused on the challenges, both foreign and domestic, to our native ecosystems.
