Teaches at Home Cooking New York

In May 2002, Jennifer Clair founded Home Cooking New York after years of working in the culinary industry. Before launching her own boutique cooking school, she worked as a Recipe Editor for The Wall Street Journal and as a Food Editor at Martha Stewart Living (MSL), where she developed cookbooks and managed the Cooking & Entertaining department of marthastewart.com. Prior to MSL, she worked in the cookbook division of William Morrow & Company and at Saveur magazine. She graduated from Peter Kump's New York Cooking School (since renamed The Institute of Culinary Education) in 1998 after receiving a full James Beard Foundation scholarship. Jennifer is also the author of the new cookbook, Gourmet Cooking on a Budget (Globe Pequot Press, 2010).

Would give 10 Stars! After taking several of CourseHorse classes this is by far the most organized and best demonstrated. The ingredient list totally matched the recipes and the crepes were delicious. Chef Jon gave excellent tips for execution, serving, modifying and for storing. All recipes were able to be done within the time slotted for the class. Chef Jon is very patient and made the class fun! Looking forward to taking more classes with this Chef!

The general overview of the class was good but I didn't leave feeling empowered to cook for the week. I felt the instructor spoke a lot about what should be done and bought at the grocery store but the hands-on aspect was lacking a bit. We didn't really get to cook anything ourselves and it was more of just cutting vegetables and stirring something in a pot. Don't get me wrong the instructor was very knowledgeable but as I said before, didn't really leave there thinking there was more to do other than read the hand-out we received. Was a good experience regardless.

It was informative and I don't regret doing it. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon; however, it wasn't quite worth the money. We didn't really cook as much as I thought we would, mostly prep work. The money spent on the the food wasn't much considering the price of the class. It was basically the same amount we paid for the class and looking around at the 10 people there it felt very low if you took two seconds to do the math and figure out what she was making off of us. On top of that, she brought her mom, her daughter and her brother who we also fed with the money we paid to attend the class / budget put aside to spend on food at the market. They were lovely people but it felt a little excessive. The teacher was also a bit aggressive. It made me uncomfortable towards the end. I probably would never take a class she taught again just based on her method of teaching. I will say I thought it was organized relatively well.
