Matthew Fischer

Matthew Fischer lives and works in New York City. He makes oil paintings as well as drawings with ink and other water media. His work is influenced by the natural world, Western fiction and Paleolithic art. He attended Columbia University School of the Arts where he received an MFA in Visual Art. He has been an artist in residence at The Edward F. Albee Foundation in Montauk, NY, The Lighthouse Works on Fishers Island, NY and The Vermont Studio Center. Before moving to New York, Fischer was the studio manager of the painting and drawing program at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, CO. Fischer has shown at Jack Tilton Gallery in New York.

Acrylic Painting for Absolute Beginners

The class was amazing. In particular our instructor was extremely knowledgeable and patient. To add complexity to the matter we ran into the COVID-19 social distancing protocol. So 4 out of 5 sessions were held using online conference. Of course the online version is never a substitution for in person session. However, the instructor did his best and gave us enough feed back and instruction that the course ended up being useful. I highly recommend the class but in person is definitely better than online.

It was the wrong choice for me personally. I was looking for a class that where the instructor would explore the use of acrylic mediums and abstract art. Instead, the first 2 classes were spent painting stoic still-life’s. I stopped attending.
