Discover the Best Kid's Baking Classes Online

If there aren’t any in-person kid’s baking classes in your area, you can still get your child started with baking by signing up for kid’s baking classes online. You can work along with your child to learn basic baking skills like measuring, chopping, mixing, and handling hot trays safely. Once your child gains basic baking skills, a whole new world will open up. All you need is an internet connection and a device with a microphone to start on this fun new journey.

Why You Should Learn Kid's Baking Online

Signing up for online kid’s baking courses is an opportunity for you and your child to spend time in the kitchen together. You can take virtual cooking classes from anywhere, as long as you have a strong internet connection and a device, like a tablet or laptop, with a microphone so you can get on a platform like Zoom that is used to log on for class. You and your child can bake along with the instructor and the rest of the class and then share what you made together.

Not only will you be baking cookies and cupcakes; you will be making memories to look back on later. Once your child becomes confident about baking, you can begin to pass on family recipes and traditions. Imagine how proud your child will be when delivering a batch of cookies to Grandma made from her own recipe.

Virtual Kid's Baking Classes

You can choose between live online kid’s baking classes or on-demand video tutorials when you want your child to learn to bake. Here are some possibilities.

Food Craft offers Cookie Decorating, a live online baking class for adults or kids 12 and up. Participants will create seasonal cookies and learn different decorating techniques, including flooding, marbling, and wet-on-wet icing. Food Craft’s mission is to use “made from scratch” cooking classes to build student confidence.

Home Cooking New York has a series of virtual cooking camps that also include baking lessons. Virtual Cooking Camp for Kids, 10+ isn’t baking heavy but it does introduce cooking techniques to kids ten and up. The camp includes four sessions with 15 minutes of kitchen clean-up at the end.

Taste Buds Kitchen offers both in-person and virtual kid’s baking classes. TBK was founded in 2007 and was voted Most Loved Virtual Cooking Program in 2021 by families across the US.

One of their past online offerings is Cupcakes & Cookies Camp for Ages 6 - 15. This is a five-day virtual camp experience where students learn important kitchen skills like how to read recipes, measure wet and dry ingredients, and use a knife correctly. Class recipes will include chocolate monster cookies, quinoa cupcakes, fruit pizza sugar cookies, and pineapple upside-down cupcakes. All recipes are vegetarian and can be adjusted to fit gluten-free, dairy-free, or egg-free diets.

Another class offered in the past is Virtual Cook Along from The Chopping Block Lincoln Square. The Chopping Block offers in-person classes in Chicago ranging from seasonal cooking and baking to intensive bootcamps. With a virtual class, you and your child can cook along with the instructor. The spring class included strawberry shortcake with vanilla whipped cream and lemon cake with lemon curd and blueberry sauce. You can add past classes to a CourseHorse Wish List and you will be notified when the class is back on the schedule.

Private Online Group Kid's Baking Classes

If your child has a birthday coming up, private group kid’s cooking classes are a great party idea. You can sign your group up, and if you don’t see an event you like, reach out to CourseHorse and request to book a class on the roster for your group. Pretty much any virtual cooking or baking class can be set up as an online private party. Use the contact form to schedule your private event, and don’t worry if you need to add more people after you’ve booked your event. CourseHorse will get back to you within 24 hours and does not charge any extra booking fees.

How about a Virtual Ice Cream Making party? You can book up to 60 people to learn how to make an ice cream base, add flavorings, mix, and freeze the ice cream. If you have an ice cream freezer, that’s great, but this class involves a technique for making ice cream that does not require a dedicated ice cream freezer.

You can also choose a Virtual Cookie Workshop for up to 100 participants to learn to make chocolate chip and lemon crinkle cookies. Like other virtual classes, you will receive a list of ingredients you will need to provide in order to participate.

Online vs. In-Person Kid's Baking Classes

Live online classes are similar to in-person sessions. They have an instructor in a kitchen and there may be students present as well, but other participants log on via Zoom or another video conferencing platform using a tablet or laptop.

One advantage of live online kid’s baking classes is that your kids can attend from anywhere and you don’t have to drive to a different location or struggle to find parking. One possible disadvantage of virtual kid’s baking classes is that you may have to go shopping. Most in-person classes provide ingredients and equipment as part of the cost of the class, but virtual classes may not. Some schools send out kits for your child to use during class, while others simply send a list of what your child will need for class.

Can I Kids Learn Baking for Free Online?

On-demand tutorials can be found for free on platforms like YouTube or subscription sites like Skillshare or Udemy for a fee. You and your child can bake along with the video and stop it if you need to rewatch a section, but you won’t have a live instructor to answer questions and there are no other students to interact with. Many people find that having a live instructor makes learning easier, more efficient, and more fun.
