Teens: How to Capture the Human Face on Canvas

Develop confidence in painting the human face! The face is an exciting study but many students find it challenging and intimidating. In our class course, over a period of weeks you will be able to create fully realized portraits on canvas. This is a great class for observational skills, you are free to work from personal subject matter: photos and pictures of loved ones or faces of people you admire or who capture your imagination. This is an excellent class for students working on portfolios and thinking about a career in the visual arts who are building up a body of work or for beginners up to a challenge! Return students are very welcome in this class.

In this course we will:

• Work on preliminary drawing and sketching exercises in preparation for painting
• Study and sketch the human face through composition & dynamic poses; 3/4 views and non-traditional and unusual angles or action poses
• After our drawing exercises we will move on to painting fully realized facial portraits on canvas.
• Learn color mixing
• Learn how we can capture texture like hair, eyes, skin with cool brush applications + techniques
• Learn how to capture realistic surfaces and textures for clothing, drapery, jewelry, glasses etc
• Learn how to give our subjects a realistic feel, how to set your subject in the right setting and how to employ light, to make tonal, emotional and mood changes. Think about background and perspective to really give our portraits that unique flavor
• At the end of the course your instructor will offer valuable critique to help you continue your journey.

TO JOIN YOUR ONLINE CLASS:

• Please DOWNLOAD the FREE Zoom App . Make sure you download the App on the same device you are going to use for the class. (If you sign up for the App on your phone, it wont work on your Laptop)
• We suggest preparing for class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device properly & check your connection.
• Please note, if you sign up last minute there might not be time to process your registration in time, so we advise signing up in advance.
• All classes start & end as advertised. We will lock all meetings 15 minutes after start time, if you have not joined by that time, you will not be able to enter the class and will not be eligible to reschedule your class. We are sorry but we have to be strict about this. Because of the nature of online teaching, late students totally disrupt the whole class flow & experience for others.
