Emily Rosenthal, Isaac Ruff, & Jaclyn Rodriguez

Teaches at The Art Studio NY

Emily Rosenthal is a talented artist, art educator, illustrator, and writer. She believes art enhances all aspects of life and that everyone should be given the opportunity to find their unique voice and tell their story. Emily carries this philosophy into teaching, where she seeks to help students expand their horizons and communicate what is personally meaningful through creativity and artistic expression.

Emily’s artwork uses fantastic elements to tell the stories of outsiders finding their places in the world. Using ink, watercolor, and digital methods, she creates engaging, thought-provoking stories for all ages. Emily finds herself particularly interested in the domestic lives of monsters, and this is a theme in much of Emily’s artwork and stories.

Emily graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art, with a BFA in Illustration and Humanistic Studies. Her interest in the world of children's education and illustration led her to be a “star intern” for The Art Studio NY’s children’s summer art camp for two years in a row. She has also worked with The Highlights Foundation, providing educational retreats and resources to artists from around the world.

Isaac Ruff is an artist and educator who believes in the power of self-expression. Isaac discovered his love for drawing and painting at a young age, and he followed his passion and immersed himself in a wide variety of artistic mediums, techniques, and styles throughout his studies at the University of Minnesota, where he received a Bachelors in Studio Art.

Isaac believes that art provides access to a more meaningful life. "Once you begin to look at everyday objects and experiences as a potential painting, the world around you becomes more beautiful," shares Isaac. Currently, he is most excited about expressing himself through acrylic and watercolor paints to capture the beauty of his surroundings. His expertise spans the spectrum of art materials, including oil painting, guache, drawing in pencil, charcoal, and pastels.

While in school, Isaac volunteered in elementary schools and after school arts programs for children, and he found teaching to be an amazing and rewarding experience. This led him to work as a Special Education Educator for two years--an impactful experience that taught him how to be an adaptive, patient, and positive teacher. By far, Isaac’s favorite aspect of working in special education was helping his students to express themselves creatively through their artwork. Through art, Isaac was able to impact his students in a healing and empowering way.

Isaac’s primary goal as an art instructor is to support and guide his students to express themselves while also accessing joy and having fun. He believes that making art should be relaxing and rewarding for all of his students, of all ages and all levels, from the very beginner artist to the advanced. Isaac combines his love of art with his natural patience, positivity, and expertise in order to help students create something they will love, while inspiring them to continue creating art in a way that is meaningful to them.

Jaclyn is a fine artist turned pastry chef. After studying illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Fredonia, in Visual Arts and New Media with a concentration in drawing. She continued on to study French pastry arts at New York City's famed International Culinary Center, where she was able to combine her love of art and cooking.

Never losing her love for fine arts, Jaclyn continues to practice her craft, pulling inspiration from nature, wildlife, and anything that generally evokes a sense of happiness and wonder. Trained in all artistic mediums, her favorites include: watercolors, oil paint, oil pastels, and ink.

Jaclyn is always excited to share her knowledge and joy of art making with students of all ages. Her warm and outgoing personality make learning with her a fun and enjoyable experience!

In addition to teaching art, Jaclyn owns her own business, Cake Designs by Jaclyn. Expertly crafting custom, special occasion cakes, she often uses her fine art skills to paint and sculpt designs, creating one-of-a-kind confections that are works of art in, and of, themselves.
