The instructor was very patient with me. She was an elderly woman was so passionate about the Japanese painting class. I love how she spoke about Japan where she is from. I asked her a question about Japanese stamp that she put onto my drawing & she explained that the meaning meant happy. I enjoyed this course very much.

The course was enjoyable, and I learned some techniques during the class. It was also interesting to learn about Japanese culture.

The class was very educational and fun! The instructor was great. And once we started painting it was so relaxing and meditative.

It was fantastic! The teacher covered so much information in a non rushed manner. I can’t wait to take another class.

A fun, summer activity. The length and content of the class was perfect, the instructor was very nice. I tried to call to verify the address and class before heading downtown but the number in the confirmation was not working. Better communication avenues or even a text reminder a day before the class would’ve been helpful too.

Very informative! The instructor was very accommodating and kind.

I gifted myself the Sumi-e class for my birthday week and I wasn't disappointed! The instructor greeted us with subdued music in an open classroom in the East Village and then proceeded to list her qualifications as a Sumi-e instructor, which were impressive. It was a small group which was just perfect and, to my delight, the subject was a beautiful Japanese bird and plumb blossom branch just in time for my spring birthday! I can't draw or paint to save my life but soon I was mimicking the instructor's master strokes and creating a work of art that I am so very proud of! I even framed it at the request of my friends and family who were all so impressed with my "first attempt" at this ancient art form. In short, I recommend this course highly, the instructor highly, and also highly recommend you put aside your inhibitions and just let yourself CREATE! I plan on taking more of these informative and restorative classes.

I enjoyed learning this technique. It was harder than I thought. I’d have liked to know in advance which picture was being taught as I’d have preferred an alternate one.
-
The class was very interesting, we had everything we need, the teacher was very nice, I am not sure if she was very clear, some moments was difficult to understand but I am not an English native speaker.
I think 1 hour and 15´ is too short. I would make it last 30 minutes more.
The experience was great
Thank you

I am a terrible artist; however, I bought this for my husband who loved it and the teacher was wonderful as was the rest of the class. We learned to paint flowers and butterflies - everything I did looked like cockroaches but the teacher still gave me sweet compliments and let me do my own thing when it was clear I was not going to be a success case.

I do not feel this course deserve a rating! I have taken a lot of course through Coursehorse and really enjoyed them. I was so disappointed with this course I left very early. I felt the instructor was prejudice in whom she assisted in this course. I felt, I observed, that she was only interested in helping those whom seem to know what they were doing. I felt, ignored, by not knowing, the techniques. I was interested in this workshop because it was posted for all levels. It was a waste of my money and time. I did purchase for a friend who attended, she is experienced in art techniques, she stayed in the course, she did not say she enjoyed it but she did learn a lot.

Our instructor was very patient and kind - and a good artist as well! It's more challenging than it looks so I was glad to have a reference image to work with. I would absolutely recommend this class to other people. Very relaxing and also challenging.

I adored everything about this evening. It was a birthday present to myself and I was so happy to learn from this incredible instructor. I created a bird on a plumb blossom and it’s not half bad! I will frame it and partake in other classes with this fabulous Japanese cultural center in the weeks and months to come. Thank you!

Instructor was incredibly patient and supportive- overall the class was very insightful and relaxing and I walked away with some beautiful art

I have an "A" type personality (can't draw!)and taking the Japanese Ink Painting course helped me use the other side of my brain, I had a wonderful time learning different strokes, special paint and paper, history and relaxing "me time" without phone interruptions. The teacher was AmAzInG she was knowledgeable, kind and by using the overhead projector was key in showing everyone how to utilize the paint brush, and paint - thank you!

The teacher was kind and excellent at showing us different techniques. The class made me want to start doing more Sumi-e painting on my own as well! and come back for more tips
