What you'll learn in this advanced english class:

Level 3 is our advanced class. You’ll learn to use complex sentences to connect ideas and actions in different times. You’ll analyze the subtle differences between words with similar meanings, to help you choose the right word for the right situation and express exactly what you want to say. You’ll read challenging fiction and journalism, enjoy podcasts and videos, and discuss current events. We help you improve accuracy and fluency, and gain confidence in social and work settings.

Most students attend the same level more than once, so we make sure each semester includes review as well as new topics and activities. With two teachers in each class, you’ll get plenty of individual attention.

Our English classes include activities to strengthen your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. We help you learn grammar and polish your pronunciation. Lessons organized around themes related to your daily life and work help you learn useful vocabulary.

We encourage participation and often break into pairs and groups to practice skills. Dialogues, games and lots of conversation help you develop fluency and confidence.
  • All English classes (Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced) meet twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 to 9:00pm / Niveles bésico a avanzado, dos clases por semana, Martes y Jueves de 6:30 pm a 9:00 pm
  • Each class provides two hours of instruction, and a half hour of informal conversation over refreshments, with native Spanish and English speakers from our other classes.
Note: Please bring a notebook and pen to your first day.

Question from elena d.
Hi! I'm from Italy, I've been working in NYC for 1 year now. My goal is to improve my pronunciation and fluency, do you think that this course is advanced enough to provide me with what I need? What are your standard requirements to be in an advanced class and usually how are your classes? Thank you in advance!
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! Many of advanced students come to the school with a similar background and goals -- young professionals who have studied English before but are now living here and looking to communicate better at work and socially.
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
This class is small, so they will be able to target the individual needs of their students, rather than adhere to "standard requirements." They help students understand the nuances of English vocabulary so that they find the right words to express what they want to say in a particular situation, they help them speak in a more natural, fluid way, and they review grammar as necessary to improve accuracy. Most of all, they help students gain confidence in social and work settings.

Question from SUZIE K.
Hi, I want to book, but I don't know what is the my level.
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Suzie! You can take a placement test in person on 9/12 anytime between 6:30pm-8:30pm at 250 w 65th street. You can also sign up for the level you think the best fit for and they can move you after the semester begins if needed (and they can take a placement test on the first day). Hope this helps!
