Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this shoemaking class:

This class is a 2-hour theory class on footwear structure, resources for materials & how to measure your feet. Get inspired and design your shoes. After this class, you will be motivated to find lasts that fit your feet, and create your designs!

For other footwear courses, it is highly recommended (not a requirement) to take this course as it covers a lot about basics of footwear and shoemaking lingo. It will give you a little time in between this class and your 3-day class you intend to take, to prepare supplies or order custom lasts ahead of time.

Really bad. We just measured our feet. They should've given a better overview of the shoe making process

I attended the class with much enthusiasm and excitement to learn the initial processes or at least thinking that goes into shoemaking but I left somewhat dismayed as the only thing of value I learned in an hour and a half was how to measure my feet. I would recommend that perhaps more thought is put into introducing the concepts of shoe making with samples that are set up on the table for students to see instead of watching the instructor looking for misplaced items. The instructor Keiko is really sweet but I'm used to more structure and valuable information being shared in a course I pay for, not waiting and wondering.

Like the class and content! I do wish that the explanation was more forthcoming... I would have signed up for the whole day if I knew more about the intro topics

Keiko is an excellent instructor, she has knowledge and experience to help you start your journey on shoemaking path. This first class is intended to give you an idea of specific terminology, tool to measure the size and overall glance on the shoe from inside out. The atmosphere was very friendly and we all had a chance to see how this craft is built- from the "software" part as knowledge and experience to the "hardware " part as all machines, tools and materials needed. Excellent start for me!

This is actually a maximum one-hour class and not much of stuff to learn at all. Huge waste of time and money. Totally disappointed.

Question from Terry O.
Are these men and women's shoes?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Basil! Intro class is a theory class and won’t be making shoes. It’s talking about the construction of shoes and components and steps and lastly, you measure your feet, to know what size lasts to use for your project. Both men and women's shoes will be discussed. Hope this helps!
