What you'll learn in this stained glass class:

Stained Glass is one of the most unchanged crafts in the world. The process and techniques you will learn in this workshop are centuries old, but the design you create will be one-of-a-kind. It will live in your home as a monument to your creative super powers!

This workshop is for anyone, from beginners to experienced artisans, who desires to dabble in small form sculpture, glass, color, and line design.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of Stained Glass as you create a work of colored glass art.

We will teach you the entire Tiffany stained glass process – from selecting and shaping each glass element to soldering it all together.

This 4-hour workshop requires no prior experience and will cover a variety of techniques and tricks to understanding the timeless art of glass. You’ll leave this workshop with a beautiful and unique stained glass piece that you designed and built.

Come to class with an idea of what you might want to make – a sun catcher, an ornament, or a nightlight. You are encouraged (but not required) to bring some design ideas for the workshop. Your design should be around the size of your hand and consist of 8 pieces or less.

What You’ll Be Making: A beautiful piece of stained glass art.

What’s You’ll Be Doing: Cutting and shaping glass, then soldering the pieces together to create the finished product.

Skill Level: Beginner - no previous experience is required.

It’s our business to bring people together to make things and use tools that most New Yorker’s couldn’t and wouldn’t use in their homes. This is really difficult to do via Zoom. Gathering people in our post-COVID world requires that we take our guests’ safety even more seriously by implementing every possible precaution.

To ensure your safety while at a Craftsman Ave workshop, we’ve implemented the following precautions:

  • Small Class Sizes – We’ve always specialized in offering hands-on workshops for small groups of people. In the past, we limited our workshops to 8 guests. For the foreseeable future, we’ll be further limiting our workshops so everyone can be safely distanced from each other.
  • Masking - We will be following all applicable regulations regarding masking, including allowing vaccinated guests to attend workshops without a mask.
  • Hand Washing/Sanitizing – You’ll find plenty of hand sanitizer dispensers throughout our space.

Very basic knowledge of making stained glass work, they only taught you how to do it, not how to do it well. More than 5 people attended.

Great intro class! I'm a Graphic Designer and try to take a lot of different 'hands-on' classes to learn new hobbies and get away from the computer screen. Kelsie was a great instructor, taught us a ton in the amount of time we had, and answered all the questions I threw at her (which was probably a lot). I had such a great experience that I ended up buying my own equipment to continue practicing at home. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in learning the process of Stained Glass and glass as a medium.

I took this class with my cousin and it was really fun, the studio had a chill vibe. The class was small enough that you can freely talk to the instructor. We actually made a whole piece of art which was cool and all the equipment and all the necessary tools were provided. We had a super chill instructor who was helpful and also not super strict about little things so we had a certain amount of artistic and technical leeway. I'm actually planning on going back for some other classes at the studio because I really liked the vibe and the people.

The stained glass workshop for beginners was EXCELLENT!. The hands on learning experience revealed the artistry, creativity, and incredible skill associated with this art form. Kelsie was a superb teacher knowing when to pull the group together for a demonstration lesson, when to leave the group time for independent work, and when to offer her guidance in a time of need/advice. Her pleasant, encouraging, and kind demeanor is an essential characteristic for others to feel welcomed and vulnerable in a new learning experience. Her interactions were truly genuine.
