What you'll learn in this kids yoga class:

Meditation to Cope with Anxiety is an effective, multistage class that begins with high-energy exercises and ends in a heart-focused, relaxing meditation!  Our kids are practicing meditation on their own and regulating their own emotional state after just a few classes.

Benefits of Meditation:

  • SELF-CONTROL: Increases emotional control in children (emotional self-regulation)
  • HEALTH: Increases positive emotions which improves mental and physical health
  • BOND: Enhances the bond between kids and parents when practiced as a family (Parents are encouraged to participate in classes)
  • COPE: Helps children deal more effectively with difficult emotions such as anxiety, worry and fear

Although we have seen results after even just one class, a daily practice will maximize these benefits.

Each week we work on a different topic around a positive emotion or state. Our upcoming topics are:

  • Tranquil Transition: From August 31st to September 4th we will be using meditation to ease our transition from the summer into the school year. We will use mindful techniques to help us deal with the upcoming challenges, including how to deal with the stresses of remote learning.
  • Anxiety Release: From August 31st to September 4th we will learn to use meditation to relieve ourselves of harmful anxiety. We will use mindful techniques to help us deal with the upcoming challenges, including how to deal with the stresses of remote learning.
  • Supreme Silence: From September 8th to the 11th we will learn how to pay attention to the inner silence.  We will use ancient techniques to also "silence" the turmoil the goes on in our hearts and minds. We realize that in silence there is the freedom to chose before we react to our emotions.
  • Stress Detox: The week of September 14th to the 18th we work on releasing ourselves of the stress brought on by global circumstances and current situations that are out of our control. We realize that happiness lives deeply within and is always accessible, regardless of how things look at the moment.
  • Gracious Giving: From September 21st to the 25th we come to the understanding that the peace and happiness that we have harnessed in previous classes can be shared with others, and that in giving peace to others we become the true heroes that the world needs.
  • Lucid Listening: From September 28th to October 2nd we master the skill of listening. We use the patience we learned in previous lessons to wait before we speak and learn that paying attention to others is extremely valuable.
