What you'll learn in this crafts class:

The many layers of silver and blue silks, velvets and linen fabrics give this blossom interest and texture. The shimmery silk velvet center glows like ice. We will use paperback fusible sheets and heat to mold the petals. Use as a corsage or on top of a fabric covered wire stem with tendrils and leaves.

Vintage millinery flowers were once molded with an open flame. During the 3 hour workshop you will use the templates and fabrics provided in the kit to make the blossom with an iron. Additional silks and hand dyed ribbon are provided as well as all of the supplies for the stem. Once you learn this technique you can make blossoms of all sizes by limiting the layers or enlarging the templates provided.

Kit will include:

  • Printed instructions
  • Fabric for flower, leaves and stem
  • Hanah Silk ribbon and slit fabrics for tails
  • Paper back Heat n Bond fusible webbing
  • Paper templates (cut out prior to class)
  • Molding tool
  • Wool stuffing for flower center
  • Felt to attach stem or pin back
  • Pin back
  • Paper coated wire for stem and tendrils
  • You will need to have on hand:
  • Iron (Michele uses the Oliso mini iron)
  • Wool pressing mat or ironing board
  • Fabri-Tac glue by Beacon Adhesive
  • Fabric and craft scissors
  • Small jewels pliers
  • Needle and thread (any color since it will not show)
  • Mark pen or fine tip marker
  • Michele uses the Oliso mini iron which works well in small spaces.
