Description

This collaborative workshop harnesses the blues tradition as a powerful vehicle for expressing perspectives on contemporary social and political issues. Drawing inspiration from historical figures like Bessie Smith, participants will engage in critical discussion of the blues form and its cultural significance, brainstorm relevant topics, and collaborate in small groups to compose an original song anchored in the theme "What Is This World Coming To Blues?"

The workshop concludes with a professional video recording of the completed composition. All participants are warmly invited to perform their newly created song during the 8:30 PM performance of "Bessie Smith: They Called Her Empress." Both the recording session and live performance are entirely optional, allowing you to participate at your comfort level.

We look forward to working with you to channel personal and social reflection into the expressive power of blues music, the music of the human soul.
