Class Description

Description

You've successfully performed as a clown, but now you're ready to move beyond basics and perform consistently for diverse audiences who may be unfamiliar with clown performance traditions. In this advanced course, you'll build on the skills developed in Clown Levels 1 and 2, transforming them into fully realized performance pieces created collaboratively with fellow ensemble members.

This intensive course explores the fundamental questions that define clown work: How does your clown character solve problems? What strategies help you function effectively as part of a company? How can you establish a cohesive world that accommodates multiple clowns in a single show? You'll develop your clown character further by crafting a costume that enhances your physical comedy and discovering your personal clown logic through material creation. The course covers advanced concepts, including "le jeu" (the game), status work in clown pairs and groups, and techniques for building a unified thematic world that connects all performance elements. Come prepared with character ideas, costume pieces, props, and anything else that sparks your creative energy. Students must commit to professional rehearsal standards, completing assigned work outside of class and arriving on time to all class sessions and the technical rehearsal.

This course culminates in two full-class performances.

Prerequisite: Clown Level 2 at BCC or equivalent experience.

Please Note: Classes may end 30 minutes earlier than scheduled, depending on enrollment numbers.
